Serve Extra Maine Lobster This Week!

It’s all over the news. Our Maine Lobster industry is hurting. Prices are unsustainably low. Let’s help our friends and Native Mainers by supporting their industry NOW; we encourage you to serve Maine Lobster everywhere to everyone at every meal this week!

For fishermen, low prices for low catches mean lean paychecks. For dealers it means coping with increasingly smaller margins. Maine fishermen's “boat prices” have gone to on a split price: for hard shell, $4.50 per lb.; for shedders $2.50 per lb. Our local guys – the ones who eat in your restaurants and supply you with the world’s best – Maine lobsters, simply can’t survive with these low prices.

The reasons for this slump are many. From simply supply and demand issues to the Icelandic banks that have failed – many of them were financing the lobster processing industry. Simply put, it’s time for Mainers to support Mainers. JUST SAY NO TO CANADIAN LOBSTER MEAT! Our frozen lobster meat comes from freshly caught Maine lobsters only. While lobsters are native all along the east coast, from Canada to the Carolinas, they don't all taste the same. The general consensus is that lobster caught off the coast of Maine is better than those caught elsewhere, and we agree!

While this tough economic condition plagues our local fisherman, many distributors (broad liners specifically) are proudly promoting the less inferior, cheaper, wet packed (so you pay for extra water weight) Canadian Lobster Meat. This just isn’t right. Native Maine has pledged to ONLY distribute Maine Lobster Meat caught “wild” in Maine waters by Maine harvesters!

We are keeping our Maine lobster meat inventory current to allow adjusting our lobster meat prices daily with the local market, thus giving you, the professional chef a chance to buy lobster meat at the lowest possible price. Please do so and pass some of the savings on to your customers. We’re proud of our dedicated support to the Maine Lobster industry; we encourage you to support them as well.
